In the early 1940s, an idea emerged that would change the industry.
In the early 1940s, leather straps and ropes were the most common means of securing cargo. In many cases it worked safely well enough, but Arne Norman often encountered problems when the holes in the straps did not match the size of what he wanted to strap down.
The idea of a self-locking buckle was born and Arne began constructing what would become the first Arno Belt - a light strap that could be tightened to exactly the right length, regardless of application. The vision of replacing the cumbersome leather straps persisted and Arne had a tool built to manufacture his buckles on a larger scale. The ARNO® brand was born in 1942 and laid the foundation for the straps we manufacture today.
